Teen charged after Police car rammed

NSW

A 19-year-old man has been charged following a pursuit in which a NSW Police car was rammed in the state’s north-west.

Police say that at around 1.25pm on Friday 13 September, officers were patrolling the Bill O’Brien Way at Lightning Ridge when they attempted to stop a grey Toyota Kluger.

“When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated. A short time later the Kluger stopped on a dirt track and reversed into the police vehicle,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.”

A short time later police located the Kluger abandoned on Fred Reece Way, where it was seized by Police for forensic examination.

Later the same day, Police attended a home on Fantasia Street, Lightning Ridge, where they arrested a 19-year-old man.

He was taken to Lightning Ridge Police Station and charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester, and not give particulars to other driver.

The man was given conditional bail to appear at Lightning Ridge Local Court on Wednesday 30 October.
